There are only about 101 ways for teachers to use technology to communicate to parents and students. However, for quick reminders I like to use some sort of group text messaging service. For the past few year, I have used Remind (aka Remind 101). This week I discovered another messaging service called Class Messenger. The thing that made me look a little deeper is the abiity to send out different types of messages such as a poll or survey, order form, volunteers, homework assignment, etc. I also like that Class Messenger allows the teacher to message all or just one parent. Class Messenger can be accessed by web or through the iOS or Android apps. Teachers also have the ability to manually add students and parents to their classes or they can share a join code with them. Overall, I've been very impressed with this FREE service for educators!
I'm a 7th grade Reading teacher and a technology lover. During the 2011-2012 school year we implemented a BYOD initiative. I hope that you will find some helpful information here.
